Nike, IDB, GIZ, The Clinton Global Initiative, The Government of Rio de Janeiro: Active Schools, Active Communities baseline

The need:

When a large group of multilateral development agencies, international and local project partners needed a team to develop, design and deploy a large baseline survey in Rio de Janeiro, they turned to Spark. They knew we had the technical, cultural and logistical expertise to accomplish this work in short order under difficult conditions.

Our Solution:

Using paper surveys we interviewed over 3000 students, parents and teachers in 13 schools in 5 favelas around Rio de Janeiro. Spark successfully managed IRB approval in two countries and two languages, deployed a team of 76 survey-takers, data entry personnel and field coordinators, and achieved an 88% response rate on time despite ongoing violent gang conflict, school closures, a teacher strike and a transportation company strike.
