Our work with Spark was an exciting collaboration from the very beginning.  David and his team shaped a conversation about impact that felt grounded in the work we were already doing and that challenged us to rethink how we tell the story of the power of our programs. They designed a creative impact evaluation system that fit our culture, integrated well with our program and team, and delivered data and insights that spoke directly to our questions and interests.  Spark fostered a learning conversation that still lingers in our day to day work and planning”

The need:

Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI) was looking for an organization that shared their passion for creative, inquiry based assessment to help evaluate the Music Educators Workshop (MEW). They sought actionable insights into what was and was not working, and a partner who could design a learning process that fit the program culture.

Our Solution:

Spark’s assessment system was incorporated into the MEW curriculum. Collaborative strategy sessions led to the creation of a playful handout detailing the “5 broad characteristics of great music teachers and thriving classrooms” for participating teachers. This became a learning tool in the schools, as well as in MEW activities.

  • Innovative, custom, peer-learning and video classroom evaluation process for teachers.
  • Comprehensive pre and post surveys
  • Qualitative conversations and focus group
  • All cross-assessed with over 50 hours of classroom footage that was collected, observed and rated.
